How Appointments Work (and How Much they Cost)
When you make contact, we will chat on the phone to give us a sense of each other and let you decide whether you think I can help. If you do, we schedule a first ‘proper’ consultation.
Depending on where you live, we might meet face to face. Or we can meet online via Teams (I send you the link) or even on the phone if you are old school.
The first consultation is free (unless you want to insist on paying!) After that, consultations cost a flat fee of $125. Consultations go for approximately one hour.
Medicare, Insurance and Psychology
Please note that I don’t accept third party payments such as from insurance companies or Medicare. Life has taught me that people tend to work for whoever is paying them. As I only want to work for you, I need you to be the one who pays me.
Working this way also means that no other person or insurer gets immediate access to your information. No one even need know that we have spoken.
Please note that there is no need for a referral and the fee of $125 is generally around the same or less than the gap fee for seeing a psychologist in the Bayside area. That’s not to say that I am doing the work that a psychologist is needed for – if you have a mental illness that requires psychological treatment, and especially if you think you might hurt yourself, you should go to see your GP and get yourself a referral to a psychologist. I have been a psychologist in the past but I do not do that work anymore.
That said, I know from the years I did spend working as a psychologist that may people 'end up' at a psychologist when their issue is not mental illness. Their issue is that there is a problem (or more than one problem) that they need to solve. Seeing a psychologist can be a bit of a mishit.
If the challenges in your life are coming from your life, and not from you, then please free to get in touch.
